The Department for Social Affairs and Housing covers the areas of social and housing policy as well as the democratic participation of students. Consequently, it deals with issues that directly affect the lives of students outside and within the everyday life of the university.
On the one hand, a special focus is placed on promoting social equality of opportunity by supporting students with special needs. This is done by offering concrete advice, for example regarding BAföG, the housing situation, studying with children or psychological stress caused by studying. In addition, political demands are developed with regard to these topics and brought to the attention of politicians through high-profile campaigns. In cooperation with various institutions and through continuous work, the general conditions for students are to be changed for the better.
